Red Cross Disaster Call Center Network

Ready When the Time Comes!

Do you remember how you wanted to help the people who were victims during Katrina or another disaster that faced our country?  You wanted to do something but did not know what to do.  Well the Red Cross Disaster Call Center Network is just for you. Now when a national emergency hits, you can be part of the team that helps disaster victims anywhere in the country without leaving home.

Who We Are and What We Do: The Red Cross Response Center Network’s primary responsibility is to provide telephone support to disaster victim anywhere in the country. We are often a client’s first point of contact and their link to life impacting information.

In 2005 the Mid-Dakota Chapter in Minot became a national disaster call center, joining 29 other Red Cross chapters throughout the US. This 24 hour, 7 days a week response center is a nationally available resource staffed by Red Cross volunteer call agents trained to provide help in times of national emergencies. Within hours of a hurricane, earthquake, tornado, flood or other major disaster these call centers are activated and the American public can get immediate disaster-related assistance, simply by calling 1-866-GET-INFO. Last year the Mid-Dakota Chapter assisted victims of hurricanes Dennis, Katrina and Rita, processing over 12,000 calls from 5 states.

How We Do It: With hundreds of trained volunteers answering calls, 24 hour, 7 days a week during national emergencies. All we ask is that you sign up for a training class and volunteer for a few 4 hour shift during a national disaster (you pick the times that best fit your schedule).

The Need: This year we expect another active hurricane season and that is why we "Need Your Help". By becoming a Disaster Call Center Volunteer, you will be there providing immediate disaster-related assistance, referrals and relief, all from our call center in Minot. We provide the training and all we ask is that you dedicate a little time.

Your Country Needs You!
