Service to the Armed forces, Keeping Pace with the Changing Military

The American Red Cross links members of the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard and Reserves with their families during a crisis.  Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross quickly sends emergency communications to deployed service members on behalf of their family.  Military members can have peace of mind knowing that when they are on a mission, in training or stationed far from home-and leaving cell phones and emails behind-they are still connected to home.

Using the latest in computer and telecommunications technology, Mid-Dakota Chapter sends hundreds of communications each year on behalf of family members who are facing emergencies or other important events such as the birth of a child to members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving all over the world, including ships at sea, embassies and isolated military units. The information or verification in a message assists the service member's commanding officer with making a decision regarding emergency leave. These communications are delivered around-the-clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

In addition to communications, Red Cross workers based in our office in Minot brief departing service members and their families regarding available support services, provide access to financial assistance, information and referral and services for veterans.

When calling the Red Cross to send an emergency message to a family member, it is helpful to have the following information:

Service member’s:

  • Full name
  • Rank
  • Branch of Service
  • Social Security Number
  • Military Address
  • Informaion about the deployed unit and the home base of unit
